October 1, 2002 - A few small updates

I added a couple lovely pictures of our 36-14 trouncing of Nebraska in the school section, and touched up the About Me and Contact sections. Also added the much-needed props in the bottom-right.

October 2, 2002 - Finally, it looks decent

Finally nailed the layout issues I was having! Now everything looks just like it's supposed to.
I also trumped up the top of the school section a little bit, with the biggest addition being my schedule. About Me still needs some work. Maybe I'll get to that tomorrow when I'm putting off homework.

October 4, 2002 - Some good news

So I got myself a job at the Iowa State Daily, our campus newspaper. And I already have something up on their site. Flash is so cool.
In other news, I really hate Diff Eq. I spent well over three hours tonight on homework solely from that class, and I have a test tomorrow. Ayyy.
I still plan on revamping "About Me" and "Work" sometime. Maybe this weekend, in all my free time. Yeah, right.

October 6, 2002 - More technical-type updates

I finally worked a style-sheet into the layout of the site. Basically, that means it'll look more uniform across browsers, and you get the cool little overline on the links now. Have a ball mousing on and off the links for ages - I know I did. I moved the cancer-cure link too. Seriously, do it. It's a good cause.
I also went ahead, took some time away from the Computer Science I should be doing, and updated the About Me section. It's a lot clearer, and a lot more in-depth. I'm thinking of adding a 'Links' section too. Once I compile enough links, I just might.
As far as what's happening, it's getting cold. It's getting busy, and some of my homework is thoroughly kicking my ass. It's rather frustrating, but I'll get it done eventually. On the minus side, I have two tests this week, plus all the usual crap. Such is the life of a student, right? Also, this page is getting rather long, and I'm thinking of making an archive-page once it gets longer. Good idea, bad idea? Let me know.

October 9, 2002 - (Almost) Nothing technical at all, for once

So I'm thinking that perhaps this should be converted into less of a here's-what-I-did-with-the-site type of news and more of a here's-my-daily-log type of news. So along that line, here's my first (almost) completely non-technical update. Whee.
It's midterms, and I don't like it. I had a Computer Engineering test yesterday, and I'm thoroughly pissed because of it. It was way too long for the time given, and the most time-consuming question (thankfully, the last one) was something so unrelated to anything we've ever done or seen before in that class that it might as well have been a European History question. Similarly, I have a Sociology test the day after tomorrow. I'm actually studying for this one. We'll see how it goes.
I got another small assignment from the Daily today, too, so I should be working on that. I'm also working on a super-secret project for the Honor Societies I'm Webmaster for. More info on that once that project gets completed.
Sitewise, I do want to update Work, possibly School, and add a Links section soon. After midterms. I lied about the technical changes: I made it so the roll-over (black-on-white) images in the nav load at the beginning, not when you roll over them. Bascially, this makes it look smoother. Whee.

October 11, 2002 - The end of a long week

Man, what a long week.
Got my Computer Engineering test back today - somehow, for whatever reason, they gave me 95% on it. I thought they'd ream me on the two questions I goofed up, but they were nice and gave partial credit. Generously.
Also took my Sociology test today. Better than expected. We'll see on Wednesday.
It's the Homecoming football game, which means I'll have more to do for the Daily. Plus a lot of homework due at the beginning of next week, but after that I should be home free, right?

In site news, I changed the .css file a little bit - made the cancer cure promo look cooler, and made the props at the bottom of the page look a lot cooler. That's it.

October 13, 2002 - The end of a short weekend

I finally got Patricia hooked on Jedi Knight II. There go both of our GPA's.
Homecoming football game was fun, as we beat Texas Tech 31-17. Cold as all hell, but fun nonetheless. Note that we're now #9 in the AP polls, the highest we've ever been. At halftime, the game was a whopping 3-3, but we busted out in the second half, including Seneca Wallace's hundred-plus-yard run that was really only twelve yards. Overall, a good game to watch.
Still working on some Daily stuff, but nothing tangible yet. A few new pictures in the school section, but no other big updates. Did altogether too much homework this weekend, but it's good to have some of it out of the way. The room is still a hellhole, but I hope to clean it up .... sometime. Right.
Sitewise, I made the links have backgrounds when you mouse over them.

October 18, 2002 - Long time, no update

I figure I should fix that.
Got my Sociology test back, with a 93. Good news on that front, at least. Diff Eq is still kicking my ass, but I plan to work on it all day tomorrow, through Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Sociology... Hey, at least I go, right?
Speaking of school, I put up a bunch of pictures Patricia and I took the other day, before it got all rainy and crappy. Check them out.
I'm doing some stuff still for the Daily - I set up a bulletin board on my server here at school to serve as a workflow management thing for us, so hopefully that will go well. Speaking of the Daily, I need to change my work page. This weekend, maybe?
With respect to the site, I really hope to be getting a CGI directory soon, and with it I can write a little script that will show the images with all the other Dilligas.com paraphernalia - the navbar, clock, and so on - and it could even include a little caption for each picture! I think it'll be cool, if I can get it.
I'm also contemplating a totally new layout - maybe I'll make a prototype of that this weekend too.

October 21, 2002 - Some big changes around here...

A lot of news for this update.
For one, our poor football team lost, and horribly at that, 49-3 on national TV. About the only thing in our defense is that we lost to the team ranked #1 in the BCS standings. Painful to watch nonetheless.
The weekend was good; it was just a weekend, nothing special. However, I did make several site changes:

  • You might notice, the logo in the upper-left is different. Huge thanks to Toni Serio for her work with that.
  • I now have a listing of all my pictures, complete with thumbnails. See it here. Expect this to change often.
  • I wrote a small script that now displays each picture within the site's layout, and with a small accompanying caption!
  • Finally, and most importantly, I created my vision of my site in the not-so-distant future.
Things that still need updating include the Work page, getting together a links page, and transferring everything to the new layout, if and when I decide to go with it. Public response has not been warm to it, but I'm thinking that I might do it anyway, 'cause I think it's cool.
Look for another update mid-week...

October 24, 2002 - Mediocre update

Well, I promised an update, and here it is. Not much to say, though.
It snowed half an inch or so (on the grass, anyway) last night, which made for a really pretty walk at about 12:30 AM. Unfortunately, it's raining like nothing else right now, so there goes the snow.
I continue to go to classes, despite their relative pointlessness. Oh well. No new tests or anything big to report.
I'm in the process of developing an administrator script for the site... One that you'll probably never see. What does this mean for you? It means more updates (since it'll be less of a pain to do), quicker picture updates, and more new pages, when I have new information. So far, I've only nailed the authentication, but it's in progress.
Speaking of new information, I met with my adviser and determined the classes I'll be taking next semester. For the first time, I have no BS classes - no English, no Sociology, nothing! Straight computers, electronics, and math. I'll make a new page for that once I register for them next week.
Finally, the vote I'm having to decide whether to keep this page style or transfer to the new one is more or less deadlocked at 28-25, with the new page lagging just three points behind the current layout. Admittedly, more weight is given to those who are the primary viewers of the site, and those who have Web design experience. In straight voting, the current layout is losing, 8-7. If you haven't voted yet, please tell me which style you prefer.

October 29, 2002 - Finally!

Finally! I got my admin script working, which means I can now update straight from the Web, from anywhere on the planet. That's a little farfetched, but it does mean more updates, more often. It's secure and everything. I'm so proud. :)
In real-life news, I got back my Computer Science test today ... a lousy 76/100. I screwed it up royally; I basically took the test wrong. Such is life. Oh, today, I also almost missed getting my registration number, was crucified for a small mistake, and had something I spent two-plus hours setting up last night fail.
Rough day.
Outside of that, we've been having a lot of vandalism problems on the floor. Posters keep getting ripped up and/or defaced, a cable jack in our den was broken, a 8"x11" or bigger hole was punched/kicked/something into a wall, and random crap keeps getting thrown in the urinals. Photo essay coming soon, as I've been documenting it all.
I'll see if I can throw the pictures of the inch-or-so of snow we got on Saturday up too.
Until then, I'm just happy with my admin script!

October 31, 2002 - Happy Hall<

This is easily the longest, hardest week I've had here. It just hasn't been good, any day. Four straight long days, and damn, am I looking forward to this weekend.
I had a lot of misadventures tonight with some workof mine; took about two hours to unravel. At least I'm getting paid for that.
My scheduling hasn't gone nearly as well as it should. I got my ass up at 6:55 sharp this morning (which for me is quite an accomplishment) for the sole purpose of registering, and still only got three of the five classes I want (read: need) to get into. So I'm working on a way to con the instructors into letting me take their course. We'll see.
Diff Eq test tomorrow. Why me? ... Actually, I'm not too worried about it. I've done enough problems in the past week to know this crap inside and out; I just hope I don't do anything stupid.
Sitewise, I need to revamp work, make myself a new schedule for next semester, and get some more photos up. Soon.
