About Me

Congratulations; you've arrived at my obligatory narcissistic page. Enjoy reading everything you never wanted to know about me, and be sure to ask if I missed anything.

Me!This is me, barely escaping the snarling teeth of the most ferocious pit bull you've ever seen. Or, this is me running terrified from a toy poodle with a mean-looking puffy tail. You decide which is more likely.
But seriously, there was a dog in that yard, and I most definitely threw a Frisbee Golf disc into that same yard. This picture was taken on the first day I'd ever thrown a Frisbee Golf disc, which is now one of my favorite hobbies. Closely related is Ultimate Frisbee, which I love to play whenever I can find enough people for a game. Along the same vein, I'm starting to get back into golfing whenever I can, though I'm not that great; I'm thrilled when I play bogey golf. I'm a huge fan of racquetball, and play it whenever I can at school. I used to play tennis too, but once I took up racquetball, my tennis form went all to hell, and it's never recovered. Matter of fact, I'll play mostly anything outside; this summer, there have been a couple of sand volleyball games that I have enjoyed tremendously, or a couple people throwing a football or baseball that I have happily gotten in on as well. Oh yeah, and I love to bowl, too - I was on a league a couple of years ago, and have an average of about 130. Again, not great, but something I certainly enjoy doing. And this summer, I'm going to try my hand at RAGBRAI, a 500-mile, seven-day bicycle ride from one edge of Iowa to the other. I'm working on 'training' for that right now, and I'm thinking the event is going to be quite a challenge. We'll see if I can do it when the end of July comes around.

Me!So, now I've fooled you into thinking I'm an athlete of sorts. Nothing could be further from the truth, really - I can't walk up a flight of steps without getting winded. This comes from my true nature as a geek: I'm a fourth-year student at Iowa State University, and - here comes the geeky part - I have majors in Computer Engineering and Computer Science. I do a lot of activities at school, and it's the main focus of my life right now - if 'school' doesn't necessarily mean 'academics'. I have three computers, two of which are always on, and the third of which is a new laptop, for things like surfing the web and instant messaging in class. I mean, taking notes. Yeah, taking notes. This is going to be especially useful for my last year, Fall '04 and Spring '05, when I am taking mostly Computer Science courses. But anyway, most of the time you can find me on a computer of some sort - especially if you count video games as computers. I love technical gadgets, too - I got a digital camera a couple years back and haven't stopped taking pictures since. This picture of me is what you're more likely to see when you find me - living inside my headphones and on the computer. I do a bit of coding from time to time, and I know a bit about several languages, especially ones having to do with the Web.

That brings me to work - you know, the stuff I do during the summer that pays the bills. A lot of it looks and acts like the work I do during the schoolyear, except suddenly I don't have to work on it when I go home, and instead of paying for the privilege of doing it, I get paid instead! But I digress: my chosen field of work is "something to do with computers". Yes, I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. So far, all my real work has been in the field of Information Technology. I spent three summers at Motorola, doing a lot of Web work and internal and external applications, and right now I am working at Pella doing work with databases and their Data Warehouse. I'm still really unsure of any future plans or anything; I mean, heck, I graduate in a year and till don't know if I'm going to even consider grad school or not. I'm really not much of a future planner.
That's about it. Did I miss something? Let me know!

A little bit about the site:
All the HTML is hand-coded, usually using EditPlus, or straight-up Notepad. All scripting is currently written in Perl, and is almost all original. The stylesheet was created in TopStyle Lite. I'm registered and hosted by the fine folks at Caliber Connections.
All content, scripts, HTML, layout, stylesheets, programs, et cetera are public domain and free for others to use and, hopefully, learn from. For scripts, you'll need to contact me, but I'd appreciate a link back if you used anything from the site.
